SLACKER Magazine is entering 2012 the right way.

That's right folks, the Live Music Examiner has been the first to receive news on one of Austin's biggest parties this year. I hope you are ready for SLACKER magazines next big party, because it is going to be HUGE! If you thought they haven’t planned enough awesomeness for you already with the Rum Hammie Rum event, things just got serious; This New Years Eve, SLACKER has decided to host their first ever New Years Eve party at Empire Automotive with some of the biggest bands in the indie scene. And the first band the magazine has leaked is a group that has received national attention from Sirius XMU, Rolling Stone magazine, Spin Magazine and blogs such as Pitchfork. SLACKER Magazine has decided to say goodbye to 2011 and hello to 2012 with the local Austin favorites WHITE DENIM! But, that is not all. SLACKER magazine will announce one stellar act every month until the event! SLACKER has decided to invite the fine folks at Lucy The Poodle Productions and Vagabond Collective to hang out with them that night in order to provide everyone with a truly amazing New Years Eve Bash. Since all three groups put on some amazing shows and festivals, there is no doubt this will be the place to be in Austin December 31st, 2011. SLACKER magazine has also graciously decided to provide food and beverages from 8:00pm-9:00pm. Since the probability of fireworks in Austin is slim to none, they will have a NYE light show and they will also be giving out 2012 goodie bags that I could only imagine contain some awesome SLACKER magazine swag and possibly free tickets to shows in 2012? Early bird tickets to the event went on sale TODAY and are $15.00! That is an amazing price for the bands that will be appearing on the bill. There are a limited amount of tickets and even though New Years Eve is a few months away, these tickets will sell out very quickly! Check out the Facebook event page at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=232453200149331 and find tickets to the event at http://tickets.frontgatetickets.com/choose.php?a=1&lid=61102&eid=69506.

Almost a year old and we need some changes...

Well, this blog started out as a music site to highlight the events and going-ons in the Austin live music scene, but as we have grown and found other endeavors around every corner it is time to move away from covering only music. Austin is a place offering more than music and it seems with a name like Austinitelife, we should cover other activities in this awesome city we call home. So, as we start to grow and meet others around the city, we encourage you to keep in touch with the site and watch out for pictures, news and articles from out nonsense around the town. Until then, keep living the Austinitelife.

Music is filling the air in Austin this weekend!

We have had some amazing messages from local and national musicians about shows happening this weekend. We recently shared an interview with the band Saints of Valory of Examiner.com in order to get everyone excited for their homecoming show at Stubbs on Friday, August 5th which also happens to be tomorrow! Get excited because this band will definitely pump you up for the weekend with their awesome blend of indie rock. Oh, and did we mention they will be playing with The Soldier Thread!? The doors open at 9:00PM and the tickets are 8 dollars if we remember correctly! I'm sure we don't even have to ask if we will see you all there.

Another great show that we were informed about is Wallpaper, who will be playing at the Beauty Bar. If you have yet to hear this guy, you will soon be hearing his name everywhere.  Although the summer is almost over, we all know that living in Texas means we are faced with sweltering temperatures until October. With that being said, Wallpaper's music will definitely be heard pool side and at back yard bar-b-ques until the first sign of cold.

Wallpaper's hit "#STUPiDFACEDD" has been receiving a lot of attention and has even been played on MTV's Jersey Shore. MTV has also picked up the song and has been named him an MTV featured artist. Wallpaper has been very busy during the month of August; he has been on a southern tour in support of his new EP "STUPiDFACEDD" and is making a stop at the Beauty Bar in Austin along the way. Joining the bill Saturday will be Sphynx, and The Shears, both great bands gaining a lot of attention lately.
Once again, don't miss Wallpaper on Saturday at the Beauty Bar! The cover is 7 dollars and the first band kicks off at 10:00 PM.

Suite 709 brought the crowd to Stubbs as they proved they are on the rise.

The pride of every band is the music, and there is no better way to show off the sweat, blood and tears than when a group lay their heart on the line with the release of their debut album. Suite 709 owes their fans a lot more than just music; their debut album was funded in part by their fans, gaining Suite 709 the ability to show the world their music.  With this being said, from the moment the band walked on stage the night of July 9th (7.09, clever right?), they continuously praised every member of the crowd packed together in the inside stage of Stubb’s barbeque.
Having missed the first act, BK and Mr. E, we were pleasantly surprised to arrive at Stubbs as The Vettes were starting their set. With the lead singer clad in a pleather outfit, large jewelry and a feathered hair dress, she was seductively prancing around the stage immediately drawing us to the indie dance sound. Having driven from their hometown in New Orleans for the CD release show, their talent, energy and connection on stage gained the group more fans in Austin, including us.  As we spoke to the lead singer after the show, we were informed that the Vettes were all siblings; yet another intriguing aspect of the group. Following the second act, The Canvas Waiting took the stage with their emo, post-punk and indie rock sound. While watching the group entertain the audience, it was no secret they are heavy hitters in the live music scene. They gained the attention of the crowd and had everyone singing along with the group during the 80’s hit song “Bizarre Love Triangle, ” putting more of a unique, trendy spin on the once top 40 song.   Although we are a fan of the group and have seen them before, “Bizarre Love Triangle” was the most memorable song of the night and the members of the band looked as if they were just going through the motions of playing yet another show for their friends.
With the Canvas Waiting’s short set finished, Suite 709 quickly loaded their equipment on stage and as they unraveled the banner behind the drum kit, the crowd erupted in applause.  Walking through the crowd and onto the stage, in a grand entrance, the lead singer Jirod Greene appeared with his dreadlocks propped up in a pompadour and Lego heart pinned on his vest jacket.  The first song of the night “Dance All Night” was a perfect opener as it grabbed the limbs of the audience and thrust everyone into a giant dance party in the dimly lit basement bar.  With the momentum high from the first song, the group kept the crowd pleased with the song “Rockets.” Although the slower tempo proved to be a risky move after such an energetic introduction, it was another crowd favorite with bodies swaying and singing in front of the stage.  Following “Rockets ” the group broke into the poppy, yet soul inspired song  “Apples and Oranges.”With the previous five songs originals, Suite 709 tried their hands at a cover song and the execution of the cover “Crazy” by Gnarles Barkley completely blew us away. While the group started with light organ and clean guitar chords, Mr. Greene’s powerful vocals began the song and after a few bars of the into, immediately thrust into the momentum of the popular song and even, broke into the chorus of “Grenade” by Bruno Mars and mixed in lyrics of “Crazy in Love” by Beyonce, finishing strong with the final verse of the amazing cover.  “Miss you the Most,” a song about long distance relationships slowed down the pace of the show yet again, yet allowed the audience the chance to try and get a little bit closer to that certain attractive someone standing next to them.  As the show came to a close, it seemed the group saved the best songs for last. “She Don’t Even Know,” the single from their new album proved to be one of the best songs of the night with its moments of fluid, upbeat guitar and smooth vocals leading the way.

Sunshine Fest: Austin musicians play to raise money for local organizations.

Sunshine Fest, a new festival in Austin is reaching the lips of more and more Austinites as the first annual concert quickly approaches. If you are a fan of local music and appreciate donating money to great local organizations such as Austin Sunshine Camps ,Health Alliance For Austin Musicians (HAAM), or Austin Music People (AMP), Venue 222 will be the hot spot in town Friday, June 3rd . The night promises a great line up with The Wheeler Brothers, Kalu James, Graham Wilkinson, Bill Baird & Blank Fritz, Suzanna Choffel, Suite 709, and The Black and White Years headlining to finish the night. The organizers of the event have definitely done their research as all of the bands on the night’s bill are quickly making a name for themselves around Austin.
The festival, created by Austin Sunshine Productions was organized in order to promote the talent of local musicians as well as give back to the community by donating all of the proceeds from the night to Austin Sunshine Camps, Health Alliance for Austin Musicians and Austin Music People. Sunshine Fest has yet to make a website, however, their Facebook page is growing in numbers as more people “Like” the clever idea of the festival. On the bottom of the page, the organizers wrote the following to sum up their mission:

Wheeler Brothers "CD Pre Release" show this weekend.

In Austin, we are graced with so many great musicians. They are some of the hardest workers, supplying their talent and art for everyone to enjoy in the late hours of the night. Being the live music examiner,  previewing, reviewing and even predicting a line up for music festivals is something that is very surreal. We are meeting the musicians, and trying to help them succeed in this tough community filled with so many talented artists. The previews and reviews drive the musicians as well as the individuals that take their time in order to promote the great music in Austin.
It is with this in mind that we highly recommend the group The Wheeler Brothers, playing this Saturday, May 21st  at the Scoot Inn.  It will be a “CD Pre- Release” show for “Portraits,” the debut album for the group, and It is no doubt the band put together a great line up for the East side venue.  To be in the crowd during a performance by the Wheeler Brothers is simply mesmerizing. They have the ability to capture the audience with their catchy, fun and intriguing songs drawn from life inspired stories influenced by the members of the group.  Bringing in acts such as Sons of Bill, Little Lo and Molaro For Illinois, the band also promises to have the Austin Samba School entertain the crowd in between sets. The Wheeler Brothers are always bringing surprises to the stage and this show will definitely promise some great music as well as interesting surprises throughout the night.
