Fun Fun Fun Fest is moving to a new location.

Just announced via blogs around Austin, Fun Fun Fun Fest is moving from Waterloo Park to Auditorium Shores for it's 6th year of the festival. Since 2006, Fun Fun Fun Fest has been known as a smaller festival bringing to Austin more of the alternative indie bands around the nation as well as the world. Although Waterloo park was a great home for the festival, it is simply growing too large and the move will undoubtedly allow the festival promoters to sell more tickets as well as attract larger bands, musicians and comedians.
This year the festival will be held November 5th-6th, making it a two day festival rather than the three day festival last year. Although the blog Redrivernoise.com has stated there will be a kick off party the night before, no official confirmation has been brought to our attention. As mentioned on the Austin360.com blog, the FFF festival producers are encouraging ticket holders to ride their bikes as well as riding the shuttles that will be provided.  Although this years line up has not been officially mentioned, a limited discounted ticket pre sale date has been  announced for May.

The British Are Coming! Arctic Monkeys to be in Austin Late Summer.

The lads of Arctic Monkeys, from Sheffield, England will be very busy this summer. Although they will be gracing Texans with their British charm, the groups prior tour dates include an extensive European festival circuit and even a trip to the Jisan Valley Rock Festival in Seoul, South Korea a few days before they arrive in Texas.  The fans of Arctic Monkeys in the Lone Star State should be thanking the gods, as the group will be playing in Dallas, Houston and Austin, three out of five tour dates in the United States.  Looking at the “Gigs” page on the bands website, it seems as though the trip to the United States will be breaking up a string of music festivals all across the globe.

This afternoon we received an email from C3 stating the presale date, which will be tomorrow, Thursday April 28th (You will need a code for that presale purchase, so get a hold of us for the code) at 10:00AM, while non-presale tickets are on sale April 29th.  This June, the group is set to release the album Suck It And See, and we can only image that they will be touring in support of the album and playing some new songs.  Judging by the video of  “Don’t Sit Because I’ve Moved Your Chair” on the groups website, it sounds as if the new album will be reaching towards a more “vintage” sound vaguely bringing in influences ranging from the Beatles to The Velvet Underground.

The Arctic Monkeys will be playing at Stubbs Waller Creek Amphitheater on Tuesday, August 2nd, with the tickets ranging from 28.00-30.00 dollars. On the Stubbs website you can also pre-order the new Arctic Monkeys album.  Check out the website below for more information.

SOLD OUT

Flogging Molly is sold out tonight. The Decembrists show, April 30th is sold out. Ms. Lauryn Hill on May 1st is sold out. It has come to my attention lately that a large amount of shows have been sold out every time I think about going to them.  Why are so many shows in Austin dawning a SOLD OUT banner across venue websites? Are the venues too small? Is there a larger amount of music fans in Austin or are the "big name" production companies bringing in larger talent. I guess the answer to all of those questions is "yes", but I have never run across a problem such as this.

All of these big names arriving in Austin has allowed me to realize that it will be somewhat easy to guess the upcoming line up for some of the upcoming music festivals in Austin.  As I looked at all of the bands in Austin during SXSW, it was easy to guess the line up for Lalapalooza this summer. Well, this is going to be my summer. Guessing what the line up for various music festival line ups.

Last night recap, tonight preview. All good stuff.

Last night we headed out to the Ghost Room to check out Ghost along the Brazos and Ethan Kennedy. It was a great show and well worth 5 dollars. If you ever get the chance to see these guys around Austin, do yourself a favor and check them out!

Tonight at Emo's, 101X presents Titus Andronicus. If you are a fan of punk rock and have yet to hear them, go to their page HERE. They are a really great band and tickets are 13 dollars at the door. It's a steal and you will hear some great music. Since it is at Emo's the doors open at 9:00PM...

What's happening tonight in Austin? Well, there is always something going on.

After the mayhem and chaos that was Rise Against and Bad Religion last night, Stubb's is still pulling in acts that attract a major crowd. Tonight, the venue will host Umphry's McGee.  Their sound is definitely defined and they have a large fan base. The show was originally going to be held inside, however, the venue decided to move the group outside. It will surely be a great show with an equally great light show and stage presence from the group. You can check out the group HERE

The doors open at 6:00PM and the tickets are 20-24 dollars.

Just realized it has been a while....

Tonight, the indie dance band Yacht, fresh off the Coachella festival will be gracing the Emo's outside stage.  They recieved a lot of praise this year in Indio, California by Spin magazine and other music fans. It is an exciting night for me because they were one of the first western bands in Korea that I had seen. So, it is a special occasion. It was a long night, full of alcohol and I can't remember much of the show other than running up on stage with the other ex pats in the crowd and dancing along with the members in Yacht during a DJ set.

But, I digress, tonight is going to be a good show and well worth the 14 dollars on a ticket, so you should go. The doors are at 9:00PM with the first band on at 10:00PM. There will be a review of the show on my examiner page so if you can't make it to the show, feel free to check out my Examiner.com page!

It's gonna be a dangerous night...

Growing up listening to bands on Hopeless Records, Fearless Records and Drive Thru Records(to name a few) I have always supported the smaller punk/indie groups that grow with these record labels. Since the Gogol Bordello show is sold out, the hunt is on for some live music. Luckily, Austin is always offering live music. While looking at the various venue websites I stumbled across a band going by the name A Dangerous Summer. Their catchy choruses and hooks immediately caught my attention and if you are a fan of indie/punk rock bands like I am, then this would be a show to definitely check out.

A Dangerous Summer will be accompanied by the bands Sparks the Rescue, The Graduate, The Scenic, Go Action Team. Doors are at 7:00PM and the show is 8.00 dollars at the door. This will be an all ages show, so everyone is welcome!

The party never ends: Robert Earl Keen to perform at Stubbs.

It is going to be a “feels so good, feeling good again” start to the weekend. Friday night, April 15th, Robert Earl Keen will be entertaining Austinites with his music and wonderfully interesting story telling abilities at Stubb’s.   Mr. Keen is undoubtedly a legend in the Texas country scene and attracts fans from all musical backgrounds. His voice is raspy yet rustic, and his songs range from his slightly dysfunctional family reunions during Christmas to wild antics with his brother on the Corpus Christie Bay. One of the Godfathers of Texas Country music, Robert Earl Keen is indeed a great entertainer and will without a doubt give the audience a great performance. With fifteen CD’s under his belt, he will most likely cover a large amount of songs from older albums, as well as some new songs from his recently released album “The Rose Hotel” released in 2009.

With a Texas country act such as Mr. Keen, a fellow country musician would be the most predictable opening act, however, Austin’s own R& B and Soul group, T- Bird and the Breaks will be entertaining the audience before Robert Earl Keen and his band take the stage. Although it is a strange act to open up the night, they both share the ability to entertain any crowd.  With two great acts on one stage, 35.00 dollars seems to be a great price for the show.

Since the performance is being held outside at the Stubb’s amphitheater, the doors will open at 7:00PM, with T-Bird and the Breaks to perform shortly after.  Below are links to Stubbs, in order to buy tickets, and the websites for both Robert Earl Keen and T-Bird and the Breaks.

After a few days away, we're back....

So, I have to admit, I have been taking a few days of vacation. I like vacation almost more than going to shows so a vacation is always a priority. However, we are back and ready to tell you about a show coming to Austin tonight featuring a band from Austin, Texas. Emos will be the venue tonight for the "Tall as Texas" tour featuring IvoryLine, the Material and the Canvas Waiting. The show is at 9:00PM and the tickets are 10.00 day of the show. It will undoubtedly be a great show and having seen the Canvas Waiting before I would highly recommend the show. Below are the Myspace pages in order for you to check out the bands playing tonight.

The swamp is coming to Texas.

If you are looking for something to do today, I would highly recommend heading on down to Buda to check out the Louisiana Swamp thing and Crawfish festival. Personally, I am a huge fan of Zydeco and I am pretty sure it comes from my Louisiana background. As mentioned, the music featured will mostly be Zydeco, however, blues, rock and even funk will be featured. There will be an awesome line up featuring George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic and many other zydeco and funk acts. Also featured are over 7,000 pounds of crawfish. So get on out to Buda, get you some crawfish and check out some great zydeco music. For more information, check out the website HERE

Legendary punk band Wire to be in Austin tonight.

I was introduced to Wire through a friends sister. We were having a conversation about punk rock, and music in general when this name "Wire" popped into the conversation. Having never heard of the group I was instantly curious. Their sound is truly unique and it is a sound that has been mastered by the group. With 35 years under their belts, the group Wire have mastered their craft. Wire will take to the outside stage tonight at Mohawk. The tickets are 17 dollars in advance and the doors are at 9:00PM. The flyer does not state an opening band, so it might be a surprise as to who will show up.  Check out a video of the group HERE:

Free Texas Music Series at the Nutty Brown!

The ever so famous Texas Music Series brought to us central Texans via KVET is back! I am a huge fan of the series because it is free and a great place to discover new up and coming musicians.  For the past nine years it has been held at the famous Hill's Cafe on Congress, however, for its tenth year, the series and radio broadcast has moved to the Nutty Brown. It seems as though the free Texas music series has grown a little too big for its boots and needed to move. With a capacity of 4, 100 people it will allow the hardcore fans a chance to see the bands and not have to show up so early, fight for parking and wait in a dreaded line.

Tonight is the first night of the series in the new home and it will be a great one with Ryan Beaver opening and Reckless Kelly headlining the show. Two great bands for free! Ryan Beaver will take the stage at 6:30PM and Reckless Kelly will take the stage at 8:00 PM until 10:00PM. If you cannot make it over to the Nutty Brown, don't fear, you can listen to a live broadcast on 98.1 FM as well as on the website KVET.com.  A preview of the show can be located HERE

We hope to see everyone out at the show!

Where is my mind....

Apparently I can't read a calendar, or I was just going crazy, or I wanted something to be going on yesterday, but I royally screwed up the dates for the show last night at the Mohawk. Final Exam is actually playing TONIGHT! Will we at Austinitelife be there? That is the mystery. Will pictures and video be taken? That my friends is another mystery. You will have to head back to the site to see if we actually got around to the show.

Got the Monday Blues... Head on over to the Mohawk for some music!

It's Monday and that means the start to the work week has begun. If you are not too tired and looking for some good music, feel free to head on down to the Mohawk. Final Exam is one of the bands playing tonight and we highly recommend them. We last saw them play a show with Sphynx and LAX and were highly surprised at the awesome sound of the group. Plus, they did play a Pixies cover, which gained the band some major points. So, with that being said, the show is at 10:00 PM and it is only 6 dollars(8 dollars for minors), so check out some local music and tell your friends.

Great Austin bands tonight for Homegrown Live.

101X is back with it's Homegrown Live, one of the best places to check out local bands. Tonight will feature What Made Milwaukee Famous, Tacks, The Boy Disaster, and Ovenbirds all at the Mohawk. I don't like mentioning the same venue back to back, however, What Made Milwaukee Famous is a great live band, and since the Cold War Kids show is sold out, the Mohawk will be the best place for music tonight. There will also be some great music inside as well featuring Shapes Have Fangs, The Curious Mystery and Rayon Beach. The show is 10 dollars in advance and 12 dollars day of the show. The doors open at 8:00PM and it will be a great night for music.

Check out the flyer HERE

*If you want to fight the crowd of under age teenagers tonight  you will want to head on over to Emos for Forever The Sickest Kids. The bill will also include Breathe Carolina, This Century, Before Their Eyes, Tonight Alive. Tickets day of the show are 17 dollars. The doors open at 6:00 PM.
